Jakarta, May 3 2023 - Electric vehicles have been increasingly seen on the road lately. "Tokopedia recorded a significant increase in overall electric vehicle sales of more than twofold during the first quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of 2022," said Associate Vice President of Category Development Tokopedia, Fransiscus Leo Chandra.
Electric motorcycle transactions on Tokopedia increased almost three times during the first quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of 2022. Internal Tokopedia data also shows that the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and the electrical system of electric cars or motorcycles, accu charger for electric cars and electrical motorcycles are some of the best-selling products related to electric cars/motorcycles during Q1 2023.
Medan (North Sumatra), Pekanbaru (Riau), Bogor (West Java), Sleman (Yogyakarta Special Region) and Badung (Bali) are some of the areas with the highest increase in electric car buyers, with an average increase of more than twofold, during the first of quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
“Meanwhile, Tangerang (Banten), Malang (East Java), Palembang (South Sumatra), Badung (Bali), and Balikpapan (East Kalimantan) are some of the areas with the highest increase in electric motorcycle buyers, with an average increase of almost 6.5 times during the first quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of 2022," added Leo.

"The increasing trend of using electric vehicles in Indonesia is supported by various supporting infrastructure, such as electric charging stations that can be found in several regions of Indonesia, as well as various policies that are friendly to electric vehicle users," said Leo.
"In addition, there are more and more automotive companies that produce environmentally friendly electric vehicles at affordable prices, so more and more people are starting to switch to electric cars or motorcycles," explained Leo.

The government is continuously promoting the use of electric vehicles through various policies, including a 10% Value Added Tax (VAT) incentive for purchasing electric cars.* There is also a subsidy of Rp7 million for purchasing electric motorcycles.**

Odd-even policy is applied during rush hours, as an effort to reduce pollution and heavy traffic congestion. Motor vehicles are allowed to travel on the road at certain times by adjusting the last digit of their license plate with the date.
"Due to its environmentally-friendly technology that can reduce carbon emissions, electric vehicles are currently exempt from the odd-even policy. Electric cars and motorcycles have a special plate with a blue line at the bottom to distinguish them from conventional vehicles," said Leo.

The price of electric motorcycles are becoming more affordable so that anyone can start switching to more environmentally-friendly vehicles. "Generally, electric cars require approximately 8-10 hours for home charging and 3-4 hours for charging at a charging station. Meanwhile, electric motorcycles usually require an average of 2-3 hours at a charging station," said Leo.
In using electricity at home, one of the things that need to be considered is the power usage. Indonesians can more easily increase the electricity usage as needed because now it can be done online.
