Central Java, 23 June 2025 – Hundreds of batik artisans in Lasem, Central Java, have undergone a digital transformation by participating in creator training and #JualanNyaman education programs from Tokopedia and TikTok Shop.
“We integrated the Creators Lab and Melokal Dengan Batik programs to equip batik artisans—who are also MSME players—with the skills to create promotional video content, as well as knowledge on how to sell comfortably (#JualanNyaman) on Tokopedia and TikTok Shop. These programs emphasize the importance of protecting Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), as batik entrepreneurs often face challenges related to IPR, such as plagiarism or motif imitation,” said Vonny Susamto, Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-commerce.
Creators Lab Helps Batik Artisans Boost Sales
Through creator training provided by the Creators Lab program, batik MSMEs are expected to build their brand, expand their market reach, and increase sales through promotional video content—whether short videos or live streaming—which currently has a significant impact on online shopping decisions. According to data from the first half of 2024 compared to the second half of 2023, businesses that engaged in live streaming on TikTok experienced an average sales increase of 7 times on TikTok Shop.
The Creators Lab curriculum includes topics such as an introduction to affiliate principles, personal branding, video scriptwriting, and hands-on practice in creating short videos or live streams. “After participating in the training, batik artisans as sellers are expected to be able to independently create video content to promote their batik products on Tokopedia or TikTok Shop, or begin collaborating with affiliates on TikTok,” Vonny explained.
Melokal Dengan Batik Taps into the Potential of the Domestic Industry
Melokal Dengan Batik is a continuous campaign by Tokopedia and TikTok Shop aimed at advancing the batik sector, which is known for its high employment capacity. According to government data, as of August 2024, the batik industry has employed 200,000 workers. Since the development of this sector requires collective effort, Tokopedia and TikTok Shop are collaborating with the batik artisan community at Rumah Merah Heritage Lasem.
Yenni Susanti, General Manager of Rumah Merah Heritage Lasem, said, “We appreciate Tokopedia and TikTok Shop’s initiative in training Lasem batik artisans to become creators and to sell comfortably (#JualanNyaman) on e-commerce platforms. Lasem Batik is one of the oldest batik traditions in Indonesia. This initiative not only supports batik MSMEs economically but also helps preserve Indonesia’s cultural textile heritage.”
IPR Education Encourages Batik Artisans to #JualanNyaman
In addition to creator training, batik artisans in Lasem also received #JualanNyaman education from Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, which emphasizes the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) protection. For example, sellers are advised not to use photos, titles, or product descriptions from other brands without permission.
Tokopedia and TikTok Shop also introduced IPR protection regulations, features available to help safeguard IPR, and encouraged artisans to join the Intellectual Property Protection Center to help batik MSMEs more easily protect their rights.
