On Its 13th Anniversary, Tokopedia Shares Past Year’s Trends and Innovations

Indonesia, August 18, 2022 – "On its 13th anniversary, Tokopedia, an Indonesian technology company that is a part of the GoTo Group, continues and strives towards creating a super ecosystem that makes it easier for anyone to start and find anything with Tokopedia ('13ersama Tokopedia'), to foster Indonesia's economic recovery," Tokopedia’s CTO Herman Widjaja said.

"One of its efforts is the Hyperlocal initiative, which employs the geo-tagging technology that gives merchants greater access to buyers in their vicinity and equal opportunity for growth across Indonesia. Sellers then no longer need to relocate to bigger cities to attract buyers," Herman added.

Several manifestations of Hyperlocal include: Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP), a unique page offering buyers curated products provided by nearby sellers. There is also the Mitra Tokopedia application that helps mom-and-pop shop owners stock their goods, sell digital products such as phone credits, electricity tokens, and pay their taxes, tuition, as well as healthcare and social security.

There is also Tokopedia NOW!, allowing buyers access to everyday essentials delivered within a maximum of two hours after payment; Dilayani Tokopedia, a fulfillment service that enables sellers to store their products in smart warehouses in high-demand areas; and Digitalisasi Pasar Tradisional, collaborating with the Indonesian government to digitize traditional markets,

"We note other unique findings due to those initiatives throughout the past year (August 2021-August 2022). One insight is of the Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem, where its numbers of transactions and registered sellers increased by 1.5 times and close to 2 times, respectively,” Tokopedia’s External Communications Senior Lead Rizky Juanita Azuz said.

Tokopedia NOW! also saw its number of transactions increase by 2.5 times. Dilayani Tokopedia’s transactions also spiked by more than 3.5 times. On the other hand, there are 10 traditional markets that have joined Tokopedia; that number will continue to grow. The following are some of the most popular categories and products:

  • Women’s Sling Bags

Tokopedia also shares other interesting findings throughout August 2021-August 2022:

  • regions with the highest increase in the number of sellers: Pasangkayu, Pakpak Bharat, Banggai Islands, Bintuni Bay and Anambas Islands;
  • regions with the highest increase in the number of buyers: Asmat, Halmahera, Takalar, Jeneponto and Bantaeng (an average increase of 3.5 times);
  • regions with the highest increase in the number of transactions: Jayawijaya, North Konawe, Waropen, Paniai and Bintang Mountains (an average increase of 9 times).

Throughout August 2022, to celebrate its 13th anniversary, Tokopedia presents Tokopedia ‘Semua Serba Murah’ Anniversary Promo in various campaigns, such as Serbu Official Store (SOS) on August 13-24, 2022, offering cashback deals of up to Rp1.3 million, and Waktu Indonesia Belanja (WIB), providing flash sales starting as low as Rp130.
