Indonesia, 3 December 2021 - Celebrating the International Day of Disabled Persons (3/12/2021), Tokopedia officially launched the Voice Over feature. This feature makes it easier for people with disabilities, especially the visually impaired, to use the Tokopedia application to fulfill their needs and create opportunities.
"Through this feature, we hope that Tokopedia can become an increasingly inclusive platform and make it easier for more people from various walks of life, including users with disabilities," said Ferico Samuel, Engineering Manager Tokopedia and developer of the feature.
Ferico also explained that the presence of this feature cannot be separated from the contribution of people with disabilities who are also Tokopedia users, "The Voice Over feature continues to be developed according to the input of friends with disabilities who use Tokopedia so that it is always relevant to their needs."
One of the blind Tokopedia users, Maria Hardono, said, “The Voice Over Tokopedia feature helps me in the online shopping process. I can listen to product reviews from other buyers, shop with an e-wallet and participate in various promos and live shopping.”
Another visually impaired user and business actor at Tokopedia, M. Reza Akbar, said, "Since I used the Voice Over feature on Tokopedia, I feel that I have become more independent, especially in meeting my daily needs and running a business more easily and comfortably."
Currently, the Voice Over feature can be accessed through the iOS system and will continue to be developed for all types of smartphone systems, including Android.
Present an Inclusive Ecosystem
Not only that, Tokopedia through Tokopedia Bersama also focuses on empowering disabled groups to become more independent socially and economically. For example, through the opening of donation channels, skills training, access to business development and much more.
On the other hand, Tokopedia, which is now home to more than 6,000 Nakama (as Tokopedia employees are called), also continues to open up opportunities for the best talents, including people with disabilities, to work together, creating various digital innovations.
Deva Prasetya Wibowo and Shaleh Mahfud are examples of Nakama with disabilities at Tokopedia Care Yogyakarta who have joined since 2019 and consistently contribute to making things easier for the Indonesian people through 24/7 user service.
"Tokopedia's series of initiatives are expected to be able to provide comprehensive solutions that can help the Indonesian people, especially friends with disabilities, fulfill their daily needs to create opportunities as well as #BangkitBersama to restore the economy affected by the pandemic," concluded Ferico.
