Indonesia, April 19, 2022 – In 2021, the Indonesian people donated more than Rp160 billion through Tokopedia’s Donation, Zakat, and Qurban features. "This shows that, despite the pandemic, the people still highly look forward to giving back," Tokopedia’s Head of New Retail Karina Susilo said.
Due to such enthusiasm, Tokopedia, through its ecosystem of local mom-and-pop stores (warung) called Mitra Tokopedia , introduced the Ramadan Berlipat Nikmat campaign, naming Belanja Otomatis Donasi one of its programs. Through this program, traditional businesses, such as warung and toko kelontong, can share with those in need.
"Ultimately, Tokopedia will help distribute the donations raised by merchants within the Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem, in the form of sembako (basic necessities), to children, orphans, the underprivileged, and the elderly ," Susilo explained.
Iswandi, a Mitra Tokopedia merchant, participated in this program. He has operated a warung in Tulungagung, East Java for over 20 years and decided to join Mitra Tokopedia in September 2021.
“Children in my community like buying treats from my stall, during which they don’t have enough money to pay. I don’t consider it a debt. Instead, I ask them to recite their memorized short Quran verses or quiz them on their studies. I see it as a form of giving back or education,” Iswandi shared.
"We highly appreciate traditional business owners such as Pak Iswandi for their generous donations. We hope that the donations collected will encourage other business owners to give back,” Susilo said.
Tokopedia also introduced the Undian THR program, a raffle with an opportunity to win a total of Rp150 million in prizes, for traditional businesses who optimize the Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem.
The Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem aims to help traditional businesses adapt to the digital era through technology.
With the Mitra Tokopedia app, traditional businesses such as warung and toko kelontong can seamlessly and efficiently note their products’ stock, sell digital goods such as phone credits, data packages, electric tokens, water bill payments, health care and social security (BPJS), tuition, and others.
