Indonesia, March 7, 2022 - Indonesian tech company Tokopedia is partnering with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in France to support Bali-based MSME Jewel Rocks on Paris Fashion Week.
Tokopedia’s Director of Public Policy and Government Relations, Astri Wahyuni, said, “We are committed to providing the largest possible stage for Indonesian local MSME actors to continue growing – especially during this pandemic – on a global scale.”
The Indonesian Ambassador to France, Mohamad Oemar, said: “As one of the fashion meccas of the world, France can be a gateway for Indonesian designers to enter the international market. Supporting Indonesian MSMEs is part of the Indonesian government's efforts to encourage the progress of Indonesia's creative economy."
Jewel Rocks – a handmade fashion jewelry brand that uses a variety of unique materials – was selected as one of the local MSMEs that will showcase their products in the autumn/winter 2022 collection at the Paris Fashion Week Showroom through the ‘Indonesian Designers in Paris by L'Adresse Paris Agency’ program. The showroom will be held from March 4-7 at the Palais Brongniart, Paris.
Jewel Rocks owner Imelda Widjaja, who founded the brand in 2006, admitted that she was inspired by her love of collecting jewelry as souvenirs whenever she travels. “I got the idea of making modern jewelry that can serve as a memorabilia or souvenir without having to give up traditional elements like technique or themes.”
In running her business, Imelda has collaborated with many silver, resin, glass beads, and natural dye craftsmen in Bali, East Java, and Bandung. With a starting capital of only Rp. 500.000, Jewel Rocks has grown rapidly and now has 10 employees – most of whom are housewives.
“During the pandemic, digital platforms like Tokopedia have really helped our business. Our turnover in 2021 has also tripled compared to 2020,” explained Imelda.
For Paris Fashion Week, Imelda has prepared 10 new designs that have yet to be launched in Indonesia and will also showcase various favorite collections from Jewel Rocks.
"I hope that through this event, Indonesia's reputation on the world stage will be more prominent, and buyers on the international stage will be able to see the potential of more and more high-quality local companies in our country," concluded Imelda.
