R0303ag / AgCl reference electrode is composed of a silver wire plated with silver chloride (with a polytetrafluoroethylene cap), a glass tube (i.e. reference electrode chamber) and a "porous ceramic head" sealed in the glass tube.
The reference electrode chamber was filled with 3M KCl solution. Or the customer may choose other concentrations of KCl to fill. The relative voltage between the reference electrode and the standard hydrogen electrode can be calculated by the activity of Cl-ion:
Before using the reference electrode, please check whether there are bubbles in the glass tube. If there are bubbles, you can drive out the gas in the tube by shaking or nail flicking. If there are crystals around the glass tube, it is a normal phenomenon. This crystallization is the dry crystallization of KCl leaked from the inside. The leakage of liquid by colleagues is a normal phenomenon.
In the laboratory, if the resistance increases, it may be "the porous ceramic is dry. When the electrode is not used, the electrode can be soaked in saturated potassium chloride solution, or on the protective cap, and stored dry. Before the second use, please immerse it in saturated potassium chloride solution for about 2 hours to activate the electrode.
