Sebum is a natural, oily substance produced by glands just under the surface of the skin called sebaceous glands, needed to keep the skin smooth and supple. Sufferers of acne often produce too much sebum, however, which can mix with the dead keratin skin cells and cause the pores to become blocked. Blocked pores can then lead to the formation of spots, blackheads (comedones) and whiteheads. Applying Differin 0.1% Cream to the affected areas will help reduce the amount of keratin skin cells and unblock the pores and sebaceous glands, allowing the sebum to escape. This will result in a reduction of inflammation, whiteheads, comedones and spots. Differin 0.1% cream/gel is also beneficial as it increases the natural turnover of the skin cells.
