Underglaze Pencils are lead-free and non-toxic and are intended for use on bisque where a fine line or shade is desired. They can also be used for the identification or marking of test pieces. They can also be used from a very low Cone 06 up to Cone 10
After applying the Underglaze Pencil color to bisque, the color should be coated with a clear glaze before firing to the glaze maturing temperature.
The first coat of glaze should be sponged on over the Underglaze Pencil design to prevent the design from coming off if a brush is used on the glaze. If the glaze is to be sprayed on or dipped, it is unnecessary to sponge any glaze over the Underglaze Pencil design.
It is best to sharpen them with a knife or blade, but you can use a sharpener as long as the blade is sharp.
