Kolor Kut is a recognized name in the oil field.
A "gun barrel" tank is one where oil and water from an oil well is dumped. The water settles to the bottom, and the oil floats on top. Kolor Kut is used to locate where the water level is in the tank.
How to use: Smear paste on a gauge line (like the Lufkin CN1290FS590 Oil Gauging Tape ) in a range where you suspect the water level to be found, drop a plumb (like the Lufkin S590 Plumb Bob ) attached to the gauge line down to the bottom of the tank, and let the gauge line sit for 10 to 30 seconds. This gives the water time to change the Kolor Kut paste from Orange to Red. Now, reel in the gauge line, and record the water level.
