Materials and finishings Its horizontal supports are made from solid wood (white cedar) that come from sustainably managed forests, and its side bars are made from rattan cane. Not to be confused with bamboo, rattan cane is sustainable and rot-proof. Rattan brings an air of suppleness and lightness to the Delphy bed, all the while being strong and flexible. What is rattan, and why is it a material that is sustainable? Rattan originates from the tropical forests of South East Asia. It is a climbing plant (member of the palm tree family) which uses trees to help itself climb rapidly to the top of the forest canopy.
