In 1962, the Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (LAPAN) or the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space was established in Indonesia to pursue the research and development of aerospace technology and policy. Shortly after the agency’s establishment, it successfully launched the Kartika I rocket.
