So this is a Chrom Knob very specifically for a certain Fender Tele Teles and P-Basses that feature the “S-1 switch”.
The S-1 switch is a push – push switch that is mounted under the volume (or tone?) knob so this knob has a ‘hole’ in the top and a separate cap and push button actuator.

Plastic sleeve for the actuator spindle
