This is the SPI (7 pin) version of the well-known 0.96" OLED. The benefits are:
1. Faster than I2C version (watch this SPI vs I2C demo video: https://youtu.be/SvOX-xs9v8M)
2. Can also act as an I2C OLED (so will only use 4 pin) by modifying some resistors at the module back
OLED displays advantages:
+ Lighter and thinner
+ Brighter and more contrast
+ Do not require a backlight
+ Low power consumption (only around 40mW)
+ Have a true black background, which makes for a more accurate video display
+ Can be refreshed much faster than LCDs, making them suitable for high-speed and high framerate video
+ Very wide field of view (approaching 170°)
+ Can be seen in a variety of lighting environments, both indoor and outdoor
Pin Definition:
+ GND: Ground
+ VDD: 3.3 - 5V
+ SCK: SPI clock
+ SDA: MOSI (Data signal from MCU to OLED)
+ RES: Reset
+ DC: Data/Command (Digital pin to signal if incoming byte is a command or screen data)
+ CS: Chip Select
