FTZ II memungkinkan penggunaan hampir semua lensa F-mount pada bodi kamera mirrorless Z-mount. Meskipun kompatibel dengan sekitar 360 lensa F-mount yang berbeda, adaptor lebih cocok untuk digunakan dengan lensa tipe D, E, dan G AF-S dan AF-P, di mana adaptor ini akan mempertahankan kemampuan fokus otomatis dan eksposur otomatis untuk penggunaan lensa DSLR pada bodi mirrorless.
