As always, UNIQLO's LifeWear is evolving with the needs of daily life.
Today, if you go people-watching, you'll see all kind of borrowing and mixing, from women wearing menswear to high-tech outdoor items put to daily use and clean, casual styles that work on or off the clock. Faced with this fluid interplay between what people wear inside and outside the home, between activewear and everyday clothes, readily crossing gender boundaries, we saw "lightness" as a theme.
This season's LifeWear takes inspiration from different lifestyles and persuasions, featuring lighter materials, increased functionality and lightness, and lighter colors-- soft and subdued tones like ecru, pale green, and mauve pink.
This color palette was inspired by the great desert spaces of New Mexico in the Southwestern US. The watercolor gracing the cover is Georgia O'Keeffe (p.80-87), a long-term resident of the region. Painted soon after losing her mother, the blue hill can be read as a symbol of strength and suppleness, filled with a sense of overcoming deep despair.
With climate change and social conditions, it's easy to feel increasingly adrift. But that makes it all the more important to let the levity of spring into our everyday experience. We hope this issue help you ease into lightness.
