The mech rolls on a single large wheel in the movie but here a pair of 3x3 dishes are used to form a static tyre shape and the side supports are represented by black droid arms. These serve no structural purpose as a trans-clear 1x1 cylinder fixes the body on top but they look great, as does the wheel itself. Naturally, I would certainly have liked to see a rolling wheel, although that would be almost impossible using currently available elements, at least not without detracting from the appearance of the model. This set contains just 63 pieces but a considerable number of those are hinges which ensure an impressive range of articulation. The shoulders are mounted on ball joints while the elbows and wrists are hinged so you can place the arms in almost any position. Furthermore, the upper body rotates in relation to the wheel so it is very easy to display the mech. In fact, I wonder whether the larger model will be able to match the articulation of this one as its greater weight and unusual configuration seem sure to pose problems regarding stability. This is a tremendous little model. The level of detail is brilliant and I love the black and pearl gold colour scheme which is nicely accented by the light bluish grey speakers. Furthermore, the combination of hinges and ball joints permits extensive articulation, quite unusually for a model of this size. A rolling wheel would have been marvellous but I simply cannot envisage how that could be implemented at such a small scale.
