Tidus' name means "sun" in Okinawan, to oppose Yuna, whose name means "moon". This is also represented in their respective Moon and Sun Sigils used to power their Celestial Weapons. Tidus is a youthful and energetic young man. His cheerful attitude is also reflected through the meaning of his name, and his brightly colored clothing. Tidus often demonstrates that he is driven by emotion, and the desire to help others. Because of the ability of the player to change Tidus' name, his name is never voiced by another character. This has caused some debate amongst fans over the pronunciation of his name. Interviews with cast provided the TEE-dus pronunciation. However, in Kingdom Hearts 2, his name is pronounced by Selphieas TIE-dus. With the advent of Dissidia, however, Tidus' name is said several times as TEE-dus.
Tidus is the main playable protagonist of Final Fantasy X. Tidus is the star Blitzball player for the ZanarkandAbes. But when a large being known as Sin sucks him into a portal, he finds himself 1000 years forward in time. Lost and confused, Tidus meets Yuna, a summoner, and begins a journey with her hoping to find his way home.
