Studio D’Artisan “Amami Dorozome” Sashiko Shirt Here they are the latest Amami Dorozome series from Studio D’Artisan, featuring a beautiful deep earthy tones. Dorozome translates into “Mud Dyeing” in Japanese, an ancient dyeing technique which was originated from the island of Amami-Oshima, Southwest Japan, Northern part of Okinawa Island. Thanks to the handful of passionated artisan, this technique has been well preserved for 1,300 years and is still exist until now. Back then, Dorozome was used to color natural silk, which was used in the production of Kimono. The mud-dyed clothing has gentle, deep, powerful and astringent colors which can not be synthesized with chemical dyes. We believe this is one of the gift from our mother of the Earth. By combining the goodness of natural dyes, passionated craftsmanship and traditional dyeing method, Studio D’Artisan presents us this special piece of clothing. SDA utilize their original sashiko check fabric as the base and then completely dyed the garment in Amami Oshima.
