It is a commonly used solvent due to its good solubility for most fragrances and its stability. It acts as an antiperspirant / deoactive, solvent, diluent, plasticizer and fixative. produced by esterification of citric acid with ethanol. It inhibits the enzymatic decomposition of sweat components and is therefore an excellent active agent for deodorants. It is nonirritant to skin and shows no sensitizing effects. It reduces the tackiness of low volatile hair sprays. Nontoxic, ecofriendly, and biodegradable, triethyl citrate is a popular additive in the personal care industry.
