This plant is known for its two famous variaties, Java cananga (Cananga odoratum forma acrophylla) and ylang-ylang (Cananga odoratum forma genuina). Renowned as “Queen of Perfumery”, ylang-ylang is popular for its fragrant and strong floral smell, particularly in oriental or floral-themed perfumes. The characteristic of ylang-ylang smell is rich and deep with notes of rubber and custard, and bright with hints of jasmine and neroli, thus it is sometimes described as heavy, sweet, and carries a slightly fruity floral scent.
