Book Overview
“There are times when the astonishing, the impossible happens. One wonderful minute stands out above all others and burns with fire. . . .”
Who knows how the life of Victor Surovikin (Kin), son of an engine-driver, would have worked out had it not been for one of such moments that turn everything upside down? Victor Kin, born in 1903, was swept out into whirlwind of the Revolution. The times gave a new colour to things, the most ordinary, even rather dull people performed deeds of heroism. Kin was never a dull man. He was young. And when you are young life is more interesting than the most exciting novel, you become intoxicated with it, you do not look for the morrow in it. You are in a violent hurry, you do the most incredible and surprising things, thinking that it is all part of the routine of life. Victor Kin, like thousands of heroic young men and women of the Revolution, become a revolutionary, a soldier and poet of the Revolution.
In Victor Kin’s autobiographical novel Across the Lines you will find no clear picture of the author himself. The author is broader and deeper than his young heroes-the brave, stern Mateyev and the more poetic dreamer Bezais. But Victor Kin’s own blood flows in the veins of these twenty-year-olds.
Victor Kin’s literary career ended early. This is his only book. It is the book of a warm-hearted writer.
