Arabica coffee harvested from plantations in the Central Aceh region. It has a subtle aroma and low bitter taste. Aceh Gold coffee beans grow in a typical type of soil in the highlands, so it is almost impossible to find them anywhere else but here. This regional coffee is also famous for its classic earthy taste which is balanced, bold and syrupy. Sumatran coffee is also famous for its post-harvest processing methods. Not washed or natural, but wet-hulled or wet-ground, coffee beans go through a semi-washed process, or wet-hulled which is a combination of both. Once the coffee is picked, the cherries are dehusked via a hand-cranked drum that removes almost all of the fruit and sap from the coffee beans. After fermentation, all the coffee pulp is cleaned from the beans.
