The Mayo Tongue Depressor is a device that is used to displace the tongue in oropharyngeal examinations and procedures, like testing for the gag reflex. It consists of a handle that is curved upwards for dexterity, a straight neck and a tongue blade that is curved downwards. The overall length of the depressor is 14.5 cm and its surface is smooth. Other tongue depressors are available with different sizes, like the 15 cm Kroenig depressor and the 17 cm Mayo depressor.
