The original 1176 compressor hardware offered a choice of four ratios, but the studio’s engineers soon discovered that pressing all four ratios at once resulted in a distorted, explosive and heavily compressed sound. It is this “All Buttons In” or “British” mode that Smasher was carefully designed to recreate.
