Indonesia, 16 December 2021 - Tokopedia and GoPay, part of the GoTo Group, launched the QRIS cashless payment system that targets tens of thousands of MSMEs in the Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem throughout Indonesia. This initiative is presented to help MSMEs that are members of the Mitra Tokopedia in transacting digitally.
VP of Public Policy and Government Relations Tokopedia, Astri Wahyuni, said, “This initiative allows people to shop at tradisional sellers (warung) without cash; just scan the QR code QRIS in the shop to make payments. Through this initiative, we want to support the realization of a cashless society and economic and financial inclusion in Indonesia.”
"We also hope to encourage the contribution of traditional business activists to the growth of the digital economy, as well as help expand the reach of the use of QRIS from Bank Indonesia because we believe collaboration is the key to the country's recovery," added Astri.
Assistant to the Governor of Bank Indonesia/Head of the Payment System Policy Department, Filianingsih Hendarta, appreciated the GoTo Group's support for the Indonesia Payment System Blueprint (BSPI) 2025 policy, “As of December 10, 2021, there are more than 13.6 million merchants - 96% are MSMEs - who are members of the QRIS ecosystem.”
"We really welcome the collaboration with Tokopedia and GoPay in expanding the use of QRIS, especially for MSMEs in the Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem, and contributing to accelerate the growth of Indonesia's digital economy," added Filianingsih.
This collaboration also complements the GoTo initiative in encouraging national economic growth through non-cash payments. Since 2019, GoPay has been digitizing merchants who are members of the GoTo ecosystem through QRIS and helping the public to make payment transactions more efficiently.
Head of Regulatory Affairs GoPay, Yogi Harsudiono, said, "GoPay's participation in the implementation of QRIS has facilitated millions of consumers to be able to make payment transactions at various merchants, including MSMEs more efficiently. This collaboration with Tokopedia is also a continuation of our commitment to accelerate the cashless payment system while realizing economic and financial inclusion in Indonesia."
The benefits of this collaboration have been felt by MSMEs in the Mitra Tokopedia ecosystem. One of them is Dwi Ardiarini, the owner of the Dwi Pulsa shop from Bogor, West Java.
Dwi said, “With the presence of QRIS, I feel that it is very easy for me to develop my business, increase transactions as well as the ability to sell more practically and completely digitally. My customers can also make non-cash payments easily, safely and quickly.”
Currently, Mitra Tokopedia has been used by millions of traditional business activists to serve tens of millions of people in more than 500 cities/districts in Indonesia. The number of additional cities and districts has more than doubled compared to two years ago.
