Yogyakarta, June 15, 2022 – Tokopedia, part of the GoTo Group, the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia that includes Gojek, Tokopedia, and GoTo Financial, revealed that several regions in Yogyakarta experienced a surge in the number of sellers during the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. These areas include the districts of Jetis, Dlingo, Mingir, Syegan, and Turi.
"One of the best-selling categories on Tokopedia in Q1 2022, particularly in Yogyakarta, is Household Items. At the same time, the number of Tokopedia customers in Yogyakarta almost doubled in Q1 2022 compared to the previous year," explained Tokopedia’s Regional External Communications Senior Lead, Rizky Juanita Azuz.
The emergence of these trends was driven by Tokopedia's Hyperlocal initiative, which aims to bring MSMEs from different regions, including Yogyakarta, closer to their nearest buyers and provide them with the same opportunity to grow. Uwitan is an example of a Yogyakarta-based MSME that has benefited from this initiative.
Uwitan, a manufacturer of minimalist wooden furniture and decorations, was founded by Aji Akbar Titimangsa and Aryane Dewi in 2015. “We work together with about 50 wood craftsmen throughout several regions such as Cirebon, Tegal, Pemarang, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Uwitan's workshops are located in Cirebon and Tegal,” said Aji.
These local craftsmen are constantly collaborating with Uwitan to create innovative, high-quality wood furniture products.
Uwitan products are made from wood (rattan, pine, mahogany) that is Indonesian Legal Wood-certified, which is highly durable and resistant to rot. Uwitan wood suppliers are located near Mount Slamet in Purwokerto.
Aji explained that Uwitan products are constantly adapting to new trends and needs. "Today’s home trends are leaning toward small and minimalist concepts. In response to this, Uwitan also continues to develop a variety of multifunctional furniture in a minimalist style,” said Aji.
He went on to explain that it is very important for MSMEs to utilize technology platforms such as Tokopedia as their businesses develop in the digital age. "Tokopedia offers many features such as Kejar Diskon, Flash Sale, Diskon Toko, and others to help businesses attract more customers across the nation,” explained Aji.
“Today, Uwitan can even achieve a monthly turnover of tens of millions of rupiahs through Tokopedia. Not only are we active users of Tokopedia features, but we are also frequent participants in various Tokopedia campaigns such as the Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP) and Home Living SALEbrations," he concluded.
In addition, Uwitan often received educational materials on business development and competitiveness shared by Pusat Edukasi Seller Tokopedia as well as the ‘Keluarga Tokopedia’ seller community.
