Hari Pahlawan, Tokopedia's Hyperlocal Initiative Supports Local MSMEs to Become Heroes of the Digital Economy

On Heroes’ Day, listen to the stories of MSMEs and economic heroes – Tea Heaven, Bakso Damas, and Madu Bantal– who empower the surrounding community through Tokopedia.

Indonesia, 10 November 2022 - Celebrating Hari Pahlawan (Heroes’ Day) on 10 November 2022, Tokopedia’s Hyperlocal initiative is helping around 12 million small business players in Indonesia, almost 100% of which are local MSMEs, to become the heroes of the digital economy.

Tokopedia’s Hyperlocal initiative helps sellers become much closer to buyers wherever they may be to ensure that MSMEs all over Indonesia have the same opportunities to grow and develop (without having to move to bigger cities), and buyers can meet their varied needs more quickly and efficiently.

"The Hyperlocal initiative has various manifestations, such as the Dilayani Tokopedia fulfillment services, the Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP), the PASTI (Paket Sehari Tiba) campaign, and many more that local businesses can utilize," said External Communications Senior Lead Tokopedia, Rizky Juanita Azuz.

Tokopedia's Hyperlocal Initiative Brings Positive Impact to Local MSMEs

Tokopedia's Hyperlocal initiative has also been supporting the growth and development of local MSMEs, as proven by the number of sellers who use Dilayani Tokopedia service, which increased more than 1.5x during the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year. This increase also boosted the number of buyers who transacted with sellers who use Tokopedia's services to more than 2 times.

"In addition of Dilayani Tokopedia, we also saw the number of transactions and sellers who have participated in the PASTI and KTP campaigns jumped more than 1.5 times," said Head of Regional Growth Expansion (RGX) Central Tokopedia, Nafisah Wulandari.

"On the other hand, the sub-districts with the highest transaction through Tokopedia during the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year include Kutowinangun in Central Java, Eremerasa, Sanrobone, Arungkeke in South Sulawesi and Indrapuri in D.I Aceh," she added.

Meanwhile, some of the best-selling categories in the third quarter of 2022 in various regions in Indonesia are:

  • Sumatra, Java: Home and Living, Health, Food and Beverage, Electronics, and Fashion
  • Bali, Nusa Tenggara: Home and Living, Electronics, Fashion, Health, Food and Beverage
  • Kalimantan, Sulawesi: Home and Living, Electronics, Fashion, Health, and Automotive
  • Maluku Islands, Papua: Electronics, Fashion, Health, Home and Living, and Automotive

Tea Heaven (Sukabumi), Bakso Damas (Malang) dan Madu Bantal (Banjarbaru) are examples of local MSMEs in Tokopedia as well as economic heroes who empower their surrounding communities.

Becoming Economic Heroes, Three MSMEs at Tokopedia Empower their Communities

Since joining Tokopedia, Tea Heaven has continued to innovate by adding various product variations. Now, Tea Heaven has 100 tea variants on Tokopedia. Tea Heaven owner Devina Amelia said, "We empower hundreds of tea farmers in over 20 plantations throughout Indonesia, including Bantul, Garut, Ciwidey, Padang, Bali, and many more."

Meanwhile, Bakso Damas, a family business run by Angga Setyawan, experienced declining sales by 60% at the start of the pandemic. "However, this condition is not a barrier. Thanks to Tokopedia, our online sales continue to increase and we managed to retain about 30 employees, most of whom are their families’ breadwinners," said Angga.

Madu Bantal Owner, Chairul Mufti, empowers 5 families and local honey breeders. He collaborates with several South Kalimantan traditional purun artisans to make honey packaging. "Now 70% of Madu Pillow's sales comes from Tokopedia, with an average sales per month reaching tens of millions of rupiah," said Chairul.
