Jakarta, 14 June 2023 - Rumah BUMN, a special page containing a collection of MSME products fostered by the Indonesian Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), was officially launched on Tokopedia Tuesday (13/6/2023). The products on this page come from MSME players spread all over Indonesia, from Java, Bali, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua.
Indonesian Minister of BUMN, Erick Thohir, revealed, "The government is targeting 30 million MSMEs to join the digital ecosystem by 2024. Collaboration with various parties is needed to achieve this target. This time, we are collaborating with Tokopedia to launch a curation page for MSME products assisted by the Ministry of BUMN on the Tokopedia digital platform. We hope that more and more MSMEs will go modern, digital, and online by joining and taking advantage of this space and that even more people will be proud of what Indonesians have made."
"MSMEs contribute 60.5% of GDP and absorb 96.9% of the national workforce. MSMEs that are strong and relevant to the development of the era are our shared responsibility. Rumah BUMN aims to increase the capacity and capability of MSMEs to realize superior and quality Indonesian MSMEs. We appreciate Tokopedia, which has the same passion and consistently encourages the progress of MSMEs," said Erick.
Director of Public Policy and Government Relations Tokopedia, Astri Wahyuni, said, "The growth of the e-commerce industry tends to be evenly distributed in various parts of Indonesia. Throughout the first quarter of 2023, Tokopedia's internal data showed that North Lombok (NTB), Natuna (Riau Islands), and Badung (Bali) were the areas with the highest increase in the number of entrepreneurs, with an average increase of almost 30%, compared to the first quarter of 2022."
“In addition, Tokopedia is accessible to people in 99% of sub-districts in Indonesia, which shows its remarkable growth and potential. As an Indonesian technology company with a marketplace with over 14 million sellers, of which almost 100% are MSMEs, Tokopedia aims to help Indonesian MSMEs become the main players in the market and to be the public’s choice. To achieve this goal, Tokopedia has partnered with the Indonesian Ministry of BUMN to launch the 'Indonesian MSMEs house', Rumah BUMN, on the Tokopedia platform,” added Astri.
This collaboration between Tokopedia and the Ministry of BUMN will provide more exposure for MSMEs assisted by the Ministry, such as Sambal Mantu and Madu Suhita. MSMEs can also participate in free and comprehensive online business training.
Balinese Sambal Mantu, Collaborating with Local Farmers to Produce MSG-Free Sambal Embe
The owner of Sambal Mantu (Bali), Made Ani Setia Wulan, said, "The beginning of making Sambal Mantu was inspired by our family's passion for Balinese embe sambal, which consists of a mixture of shallots, garlic, salt, and chili."
Wulan works with around five farmers in Petang and Tabanan to ensure that the local ingredients used in making Sambal Mantu are of the highest quality. Ani combines traditional recipes and modern processing to create a Balinese sambal that tastes delicious, savory, crispy, and MSG-free.
Over time, Sambal Mantu products are increasingly loved by people from various regions and are often used as Balinese souvenirs by tourists. This made Wulan finally quit her regular job to pursue the Sambal Mantu business at home.
"The Rumah BUMN initiative on Tokopedia helps MSMEs like Sambal Mantu to develop their business further. More people can easily find and purchase our products through the special Rumah BUMN page on Tokopedia. In addition to easy access to selling online and reaching a wider market, we also have the opportunity to receive capital and business coaching," said Wulan.
In the first quarter of 2023, Sambal Mantu experienced a more than two-fold increase in transactions compared to the first quarter of 2022. "Thanks to Tokopedia, we can maximize online sales so that it also indirectly helps local farmers in Petang and Tabanan," said Wulan.
Initially Losing Hundreds of Million, Now Madu Suhita is Successful in Employing Farmers in Lampung
Suhita's Honey Business (Bandar Lampung) started with the desire of the owner, Isnina, and her husband to consume pure honey, but at that time, she had yet to find suitable honey on the market. Isnina also tries to raise honey bees independently.
“Initially, we failed and lost hundreds of millions of rupiah. With perseverance and consistency, we finally succeeded in owning several honey bee farms in Lampung. We partnered with beekeepers on the outskirts of the forest to become suppliers. Apart from Lampung, we are also working with beekeepers in Bukit Barisan and Jambi," said Isnina.
To maintain product quality, Madu Suhita innovates by utilizing a machine to reduce the water content of honey so that honey products are more durable to store and safe to consume for up to three years. "We are the only ones to have this post-harvest technology," said Isnina.
Madu Suhita has been selling online on Tokopedia since 2019. Online sales on Tokopedia contribute almost 50% to the total sales of Madu Suhita products. Isnina also recorded an increase in inter-island transactions of more than 3.5 times in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the first quarter of 2022.
"We appreciate Tokopedia for providing more space for local MSMEs assisted by the Indonesian Ministry of BUMN through the Rumah BUMN page. MSMEs must be more advanced and creative to work on market potential, including through digital platforms such as Tokopedia," Isnina explained.
Various Initiatives between Tokopedia and the Government Encourage the Advancement of Indonesian MSMEs
Besides Rumah BUMN, Tokopedia has made several efforts to support local entrepreneurs through various initiatives. One is the special Bangga Lokal widget on the Tokopedia main page to support the Bangga Buatan Indonesia (BBI) national movement.
"Tokopedia, together with the Indonesian Ministry of Investment/BKPM, also conducts outreach and facilitates MSME entrepreneurs to obtain business licenses (Nomor Induk Berusaha/NIB) online to provide them with legal protection and business assistance. Throughout 2022, Tokopedia and the government have helped more than 5,000 MSME entrepreneurs register NIB," said Astri.
Tokopedia is also intensifying the Hyperlocal initiative, which carries geo-tagging technology. One of its manifestations is Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP), to bring sellers closer to their nearest buyers. There is also Dilayani Tokopedia, an order fulfillment service that makes it easy for sellers to store products at Tokopedia's smart warehouses in areas with high demand, so businesses don't have to move to big cities to reach a broader market.
“Tokopedia also has a Pusat Edukasi Seller page which provides various business development educational materials that MSME entrepreneurs can access free of charge. This page also includes a Financial Literacy Module in collaboration between Tokopedia and Bank Indonesia and the OJK to increase the financial literacy of local MSMEs," concluded Astri.
