Makassar, January 14, 2022 – Public enthusiasm in supporting business activities in Indonesia, particularly local MSMEs, through the Tokopedia platform is at an all-time high. "Denpasar, Makassar, and Palembang are three regions with the highest recorded increase in sellers throughout 2021 compared to 2020," explained Tokopedia's Head of Regional Growth Expansion (RGX), Trian Nugroho.
Tokopedia recently recorded an increase in the average transaction of Makassar MSMEs by more than twofold. Food & Beverage, Mom and Baby and Kids’ Fashion, and Beauty are several categories with the highest increase in transactions in the Makassar region during 2021 compared to the previous year.
Roemah Sajoer Makassar, which started as a conventional vegetable seller using motorcycles, saw 8 times increase in profits throughout 2021 using Tokopedia. The MSME also empowers local farmers by taking advantage of digital platforms such as Tokopedia to help reach people throughout Indonesia more efficiently.
This massive increase in sales was primarily driven by a series of Hyperlocal initiatives carried out by Tokopedia throughout 2021 designed to bring buyers closer to the nearest merchants and provide local MSMEs with the same opportunity to grow.
Several programs derived from the Hyperlocal initiative include Waktu Indonesia Belanja (WIB) Lokal, Kumpulan Toko Pilihan (KTP), Bangga Buatan Indonesia, and many others.
Tokopedia also initiated the Digitalisasi Pasar Tradisional program, in which the company worked together with the Indonesian government to digitize traditional markets in various cities across the country, such as the Pasar Pa’baeng-baeng Timur and Pasar Kampung Baru in Makassar.
