Indonesia, 5 May 2021 – The government of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, officially declares 5 May 2021 as the Bangga Buatan Indonesia (BBI) Day with the theme ‘Semakin Bangga Buatan Indonesia’.
The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Lutfi, said, “The declaration of 2021’s BBI Day is a continuation of President Joko Widodo’s direction so that the momentum of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2021 should be able to drive economic growth. For that, several policies and programs need to be implemented so that public consumption can continue to increase in the midst of the policy of eliminating mudik.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Johnny G. Plate also stated, “This online BBI Day is hoped to make it easier for Indonesians to meet their needs during the Holy Month of Ramadan and upcoming Eid Al-Fitr. Hopefully, online shopping can reduce people’s mobility,” he said.
This online BBI Day which will be held until 13 May 2021 is supported by 72 e-commerce platforms in Indonesia, one of which is Tokopedia. CEO and Founder Tokopedia, William Tanuwijaya, said, “The online BBI Day is in line with Tokopedia’s commitment to being #AlwaysAvailableAlwaysPossible in making it easier for Indonesians to find a variety of local MSME products while accelerating the democratization of commerce through technology.”
William also said that the BBI national movement has had a positive impact on many local MSMEs in Tokopedia. “For example, Stayhoops from the Fashion category at Tokopedia managed to record an average monthly transaction increase to 38x during January 2021 compared to before joining BBI in June 2020,” he explained.
Research from the Institute for Economic and Social Research, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) in 2020 revealed that 7 out of 10 business owners in Tokopedia experienced an increase in sales volume with a median of 133%.
The research also noted three provinces with the biggest increase in income during the pandemic, namely NTB (144.6%), Central Sulawesi (73.4%) and South Sulawesi (73.3%). Meanwhile, the three provinces with the highest increase in the number of business owners in Tokopedia during the pandemic were Bali (66.2%), Yogyakarta (42.2%) and DKI Jakarta (28.3%).
To commemorate online BBI Day, Tokopedia also launches attractive offers including Flash Sale Discounts of up to 90% and GoSend Discounts of up to Rp20.000for instant and same day delivery. Indonesians can also enjoy Produk Serba priced at Rp5.000, Free Shipping up to Rp50.000 and Cashback of up to Rp600.000 on a dedicated BBI page that showcases curated local products.
There is also a series of webinars and online classes called Chat Seller, which can be accessed free of charge. Local MSMEs can gain knowledge regarding product quality improvement and marketing. Furthermore, sellers share inspiration or experiences with other fellow sellers on Tokopedia through the ‘Keluarga Tokopedia’ seller community.
“Tokopedia hopes that the BBI Day can inspire more local MSMEs in developing the potential of locally made products, as well as encourage Indonesians to feel more proud and use Indonesian-made products for the recovery of the national economy that was affected by the pandemic,” William concluded.
