Jakarta, 25 July 2023 - Electric vehicles such as cars and motorcycles with environmentally friendly technology have recently attracted the attention of the Indonesian public. "During the second quarter of 2023 compared to the second quarter of 2022, online sales of electric cars through Tokopedia have increased almost four times, while online sales of electric motorbikes through Tokopedia have increased almost ten times," said Fransiscus Leo Chandra, Associate Vice President of Category Development Tokopedia.
Public interest in electric cars and motorbikes is rising significantly across different regions. According to Tokopedia’s internal data, Jakarta, and Bandung have seen the highest increase in electric car transactions, with an average increase of almost 5.5 times during the second quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.
In addition, Palembang, Semarang, and Surabaya are areas with the highest increase in electric motorbike transactions through Tokopedia, with an average increase of almost 16 times during the second quarter of 2023 compared to the second quarter of 2022.
"The use of electric vehicles in Indonesia is on the rise, thanks to the presence of supportive infrastructure. This includes an increasing number of electric charging stations being established in various regions across the country and policies beneficial to electric vehicle users, such as exemption from the odd-even regulations," said Leo.
"Through the Tokopedia Garage campaign, Tokopedia strives to make it easier for people who want to switch to electric vehicles. People can buy electric vehicles, both cars, and motorbikes, with discounts of up to IDR 10,000,000 through Tokopedia Garage,” added Leo. This initiative also aligns with one of GoTo's ‘Three Zerosl’ commitments, that is, Zero Carbon Emissions and supporting the government’s programs to encourage the use of electric vehicles.
Beginner Tips for Buying Electric Cars and Motorcycles Online from Tokopedia
Tokopedia, together with several automotive entrepreneurs on Tokopedia, also shares beginner tips on buying electric vehicles and the important things to pay attention to.
1. Know the mileage of a car or electric motorbike
“Pay attention to the mileage of electric vehicles in one charge. In addition, be aware of your driving habits, such as speed, travel routes, and air conditioning, because these things affect the power and mileage of electric vehicles," explained Leo.

2. Increase your house’s voltage level to support charging powers
"To accommodate electric motorcycle charging, make sure that the electricity in your home is at a minimum of 900 VA. The recommended household power for installing electric car charging points is 2,200 VA and above," said Leo.
People with household electric voltage levels of 1,300 VA and 900 VA are advised to increase the power or install a new line from PLN specifically for charging electric cars. This ensures that the electricity flow in the house is not interrupted while charging the electric vehicle.

3. Learn the location of the electric vehicle charging stations
