Tokopedia Intensifies Digitization of Traditional Markets in Various Regions, Including Yogyakarta and Makassar

Indonesia, August 3, 2021 - Tokopedia assists the development of business owners in Indonesia, especially local MSMEs, through the Hyperlocal initiative to assist economic recovery affected by the pandemic while at the same time realizing digital economic equality in Indonesia. One of the derivatives of this initiative is the Pasar Digital program which has been launched since April 2020.

Head of the Public Policy and Regional Government Relations Tokopedia, Emmiryzan, said, "The digitalization of traditional markets is one of Tokopedia's Hyperlocal initiatives to increase the competitiveness of sellers in traditional markets in various regions through the use of technology. This is expected to contribute to the regional economy.”

In its implementation, Emmir and his team collaborated with the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia and local governments to provide intensive assistance and education to market administrators and market cooperatives in various forms and to provide a forum for sharing and exchanging information.

Currently, seven traditional markets have digitalized through Tokopedia. These include Pasar Cikurubuk in Tasikmalaya, Pasar Sabilulungan in Bandung Regency, Pasar Cihapit in Bandung City, Pasar Beringharjo in Yogyakarta, Pasar Anyar in Tangerang, Pasar Kampung Baru and Pasar Pa'baeng-baeng Timur in Makassar.

Since its launch in November 2020, Pasar Sehat Sabilulungan Cicalengka, for example, has supported hundreds of local traders affected by the pandemic. Meanwhile, since joining Tokopedia in April 2020, slowly the number of products sold in the Cikurubuk Online Market has almost reached 40 thousand products.

Pasar Beringharjo in Yogyakarta, which was only launched in June 2021, on the other hand, has facilitated dozens of market traders selling through the use of the Tokopedia platform in the midst of the pandemic. Pasar Kampung Baru and Pasar Pa'baeng-baeng Timur in Makassar, which were launched in July 2021, have also accommodated dozens of traders.

In the future, Tokopedia through Emmir said that it would increase cooperation with local governments in various parts of Indonesia to digitize various traditional markets.
