Tokopedia Reveals Product Trends During 2022-2023 Turn of Year: Sales of ‘Lato-Lato’ Toys Increase 57-fold

Jakarta, 4 January 2023 - Tokopedia has noticed a surge in public interest in online shopping around the turn of the year compared to the same period in the previous year.

"Cleaning Supplies, Beverages, Processed Food (ready-to-eat and cooked food), Body Care and Beauty, to Meat and Seafood were some of the subcategories with the highest increase in transactions during that period," said Tokopedia's Head of External Communications, Ekhel Chandra Wijaya,

Trending Products on Tokopedia at the Turn of the Year

Tokopedia. through Ekhel, has revealed a number of interesting findings related to the general public’s online shopping trends around the 2022-2023 turn of the year period.

1. The best-selling food on Tokopedia NOW!

"On New Year's Eve, sausages, spring onions, seasonings, white rice, and ready-to-cook meals were among the food products that saw the greatest increase in the number of transactions through Tokopedia NOW!," Ekhel disclosed.

A part of Tokopedia's Hyperlocal initiative, Tokopedia NOW! is a service that leverages geo-tagging technology to make it easier for consumers to shop for their everyday needs and receive them within a maximum of two hours after payment.

2. Raincoats remain essential

Rainy season apparel remains a necessity for many Indonesians, especially as the year 2023 approaches. "Sales of raincoats have increased by more than 1.5 times at the 2022-2023 turn of the year," Ekhel explained.

3. Viral lato-lato toys flying off the shelves

The traditional game of lato-lato has become popular among people of all ages. Lato-Lato is a simple game that involves shaking two balls attached to a rope until they collide. “Lato-lato toy sales on Tokopedia have increased by over 57 times at the 2022–2023 turn of the year,” explained Ekhel.

4. Most sought-after party supplies and handicrafts

In addition to food, lato-lato toys, and raincoats, Tokopedia saw an uptick in transactions for a number of items related to party supplies and handmade crafts. Confetti, sewing kits, goodie bags, hampers, and key chains were some of the top-selling items in the Party Supplies and Handicraft category,” added Ekhel.

5. Last and first items purchased and farthest delivery

Meat-filled samosas were the last item customers bought on Tokopedia on 31 December 2022, while sliced pork was the first thing customers bought on 1 January 2023.

On 31 December 2022, the transaction with the farthest delivery distance was made from Medan (North Sumatra) to Jayapura (Papua). On 1 January 2023, the transaction with the longest delivery distance was from Binjai (North Sumatra) to Mimika (Papua)," Ekhel concluded.
