Tokopedia Welcomes MSME Day with ‘Terbukti NYAM! 2023’, Appreciation Event  for Local Culinary Entrepreneurs

Indonesia, August 11, 2023 - Welcoming MSME Day on 12 August 2023, Tokopedia through Terbukti NYAM! 2023 announced the 13 best food or beverage products from local culinary entrepreneurs. Results from this event were determined based on various criteria, which includes public voting on Tokopedia’s dedicated page from 3-21 July 2023.

Vice President of Physical Goods Tokopedia, David Kartono, said, "There are more than 14 million sellers on Tokopedia, and almost 100% are MSMEs, including those from the food and beverage product category. As an Indonesian technology company, Tokopedia aims to provide a wider platform for local food and beverage businesses to reign in their own country through various initiatives like Terbukti NYAM! 2023.

“Through this appreciation event, Tokopedia strives to promote Indonesian-made food and beverages and boost their popularity to become the public’s top choice. We also thank everyone who cast their votes for their favorite local culinary entrepreneurs on Terbukti NYAM! 2023,” added David.

The Terbukti NYAM! 2023 appreciation event was positively welcomed by the Ministry of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia. Director of Small and Medium Food and Beverages, Furniture, and Building Materials of the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, Drs. Yedi Sabaryadi, said, "The food and beverage sector is the largest contributor of the non-oil and gas processing industry sectors, which are the backbone of the Indonesian economy. In the first quarter of 2023, the food and beverage industry sector contributed 38.61% of the GDP value of the non-oil and gas industry or 6.47% of the total national GDP. Of this value, part of it is the contribution of food and beverage SMEs, which totals around 1.66 million business units. In addition, food and beverage SMEs are able to absorb around 3.6 million workers, making it a labor-intensive industry.”*

"The food and beverage industry has the potential to grow by up to 6.25% by the end of 2023*. Intensive collaboration is required for us to maximize this potential and provide a wider stage for food and beverage entrepreneurs. The Indonesian Ministry of Industry appreciates Tokopedia's steps in holding Terbukti NYAM! 2023 for the best local culinary entrepreneurs. This event can make food and beverages made by local entrepreneurs more widely known to the public," continued Yedi.

The criteria and benefits of Terbukti NYAM! 2023’s top culinary

There are 13 nomination categories in Terbukti NYAM! 2023, namely Best Ground Coffee, Best Dessert, Most Delicious Bakery, Most Favorite Non-Coffee Drink, Most Demanded Snack, Most Delicious Noodles, Hottest Sambal, Best Coffee, Viral Market Snacks, Most Addictive Cookies, Most Phenomenal International Culinary, Legendary Archipelago Culinary, and Healthy Dishes of Choice. In addition to going through community voting from 3-21 July 2023, 13 winners of Terbukti NYAM! 2023 was chosen based on various criteria, ranging from a significant increase in sales on Tokopedia, consistency in including relevant, concise and clear product descriptions and photos, increasing product popularity, and many more.

Terbukti NYAM! 2023 winners will be rewarded various benefits to support their business. In addition to receiving an appreciation plaque, the winner can get marketing capital in the form of a TopAds Balance (Tokopedia's advertising feature) to further increase sales, Terbukti NYAM! logo badge to increase buyer trust, to opportunities for collaboration with content creators to make the shopping experience more interactive and interesting.

Terbukti NYAM! 2023 is an appreciation event for local food and beverage entrepreneurs who have participated in the Tokopedia NYAM! always on campaign. This campaign provides an opportunity for local food and beverage entrepreneurs from various regions in Indonesia to offer their products to people in 99% of the sub-districts that Tokopedia services have successfully reached.

“The Tokopedia NYAM! page is a Tokopedia Hyperlocal initiative with geo-tagging technology that aims to bring sellers closer to buyers wherever they are. Tokopedia's initiative creates an online shopping trend for food and beverage

Tokopedia's initiatives with sellers, the public, and other strategic partners have positively impacted the online shopping trend for food and beverage products and the national digital economy. Ready-to-eat food, ready-to-cook food, and snacks (such as biscuits, chips, and chocolate) are some of the best-selling food products on Tokopedia NYAM! throughout the first semester of 2023.

Kampar (Riau), Sampang (East Java), and Balikpapan (East Kalimantan) were some of the areas with the highest increase in the number of sellers in the Food and Beverage category on Tokopedia during the first semester of 2023 compared to the first semester of 2022, with an average increase of almost 1.5 times.

Tokopedia also recorded that North Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), Southwest Maluku (Maluku), and Raja Ampat (West Papua) were some of the areas with the highest increase in the number of transactions in the Food and Beverage category on Tokopedia during the first semester of 2023 compared to the first semester of 2022 with an average increase of almost two times.

In addition, Southwest Maluku (Maluku) and Raja Ampat (West Papua) were some of the areas with the highest increase in the number of buyers in the Food and Beverage category on Tokopedia during the first semester of 2023 compared to the first semester of 2022, with an average increase of almost 2.5 times.

"This online shopping trend reflects Tokopedia's successful collaboration with our strategic partners–ranging from sellers, government, media, and the general public–in democratizing commerce through technology from Sabang to Merauke," said David.

Moving ahead, Tokopedia will continue collaborating with strategic partners to help local sellers and contribute to the national digital economy. "For example, at the peak of the 2023 National MSME Day celebration tomorrow (12/8/2023) in Solo, Tokopedia in collaboration with Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia will conduct a live shopping activity on Tokopedia PLAY to promote MSME products and encourage Indonesians to choose locally-made products," concluded David.
