WK Collection: Preserving Silver and Copper Crafts in Yogyakarta with Tokopedia

Yogyakarta, June 14, 2022 – Tokopedia continues to intensify its Hyperlocal initiative to bring local SMEs, including those in Yogyakarta, closer to nearby buyers as a way to provide the same opportunity to grow for MSMEs across Indonesia.

Thanks to the Hyperlocal initiative, Tokopedia has seen various improvements in the marketplace. For example, the number of customers in Yogyakarta has nearly doubled compared to the same period last year," said Tokopedia’s Regional External Communications Senior Lead, Rizky Juanita Azuz.

Meanwhile, a few areas in Yogyakarta saw the highest growth in the number of sellers in Q1 2022, namely in the districts of Jetis, Dlingo, Mingir, Seyegan, and Turi.

Currently, Tokopedia – which is part of the GoTo group, the largest digital ecosystem in Indonesia that includes Gojek, Tokopedia, and GoTo Financial – has around 12 million sellers, almost 100% of which are local MSMEs. WK Collection is an example of an MSME that sells its products on Tokopedia.

WK Collection is run by Wijayanto, S.T., which produces souvenirs typical of Yogyakarta using silver, copper, brass, and other metals.

The WK collection collaborates with craftsmen from different regions, including Kotagede. “These craftsmen come from all walks of life. Some are even housewives," said Wijayanto.

WK Collection had to close its offline store during the pandemic and focused instead on online sales on Tokopedia. “When we first started selling products online, the biggest challenge was taking pictures of our main range of accessories and jewelry. We also learned how to display photos of our products more professionally by participating in various training provided by Tokopedia," Wijayanto explained.

Wijayanto also learned a lot from the Tokopedia Care user service center in terms of building relationships with customers. As a result, throughout 2021, sales of the WK collection on Tokopedia were 3.5 times higher than in 2020.

Furthermore, Wijayanto also uses the Mitra Tokopedia app to sell digital products, such as phone credits, data packages, and others, on WK Collection’s offline store.
